I am a new mother of a baby boy delivered on September the 30th. I am writing this letter to describe to you the experience I had and to thank you for making it possible. When my son was born I was told by the pediatrician on call that due to the breast surgery I would absolutely NOT be able to breastfeed my baby and will HAVE to give him formula. Needless to say I was devastated by such a definite verdict. Fortunately I had the opportunity to meet with Patricia Drazin, the lactation consultant before I delivered and she came to visit me at the hospital. She gave me much needed support, advice and encouragement to try despite the opinion of the doctor, keeping of course the well-being of the baby the absolute priority. Through the ongoing support she gave me over numerous telephone conversations and personal meetings at the hospital in the days following my delivery I was able to establish a successful breastfeeding, providing both my son and myself with all the health and emotional benefits it warrants. My son is fed exclusively by breast milk; he is gaining weight and is otherwise a healthy child. I would like to stress that this would be impossible without Patricia’s help, not only in the initial stages at the hospital but later by working out many problems and obstacles encountered in the first few weeks.
Thank you.
